World Book Day – What books do citizens of Serbia like to read?

On the occasion of the World Book and Copyright Day, we wanted to present to the public the results of research related to the genres of literary works that Serbian citizens like to read.

1192 respondents participated in the research, and the research was conducted on a nationally representative multi-stratified survey conducted using the CAWI technique.

Serbian citizens like to read novels the most (22.7%), classics and dramas (20.4%).
historical books (15.6%) and thriller-mysteries (14%).

33% of women state that they like to read novels the most, in contrast to men who in 25.4% of cases state that they still like historical books.

Looking at the regions in Serbia, citizens in the south (26.8%), west (23.5%), north (22.5%) and somewhat less in Belgrade (19.7%) like to read novels the most. Novels are more often read in urban than in rural areas, while history books are the opposite.

Although the languages ​​are ranked lower, these books are used in Belgrade more than in other regions (3.9%).

This year’s theme of the World Book Day is: “Share a story”, where parents, grandparents, teachers and professors are encouraged to share a story of their own with the youth and to inspire them to share theirs as well.
