On the occasion of the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia in 2021, we wanted to present to the public what kind of support there is for the monarchy and the royal family.
The restoration of the parliamentary monarchy in Serbia is supported by 25.2% of citizens, while 20.3% are against it. The rest are neutral or have no opinion. 39.5% have a positive opinion of the royal family of Serbia, while 11.5% of respondents have a negative opinion.
1192 respondents participated in the research , and the research was conducted on a nationally representative multi-stratified survey conducted using the CAWI (online) technique.
The last nationally representative research, which was reported by all important domestic media and major world media, and which we conducted on this topic was in 2013. Compared to 2013, the number of those who would support, but also those who would not, decreased. From 39.2% it fell to 25.2% who are in favor and from 32.3% who are against it to 20.3%. Therefore, this “loss” went to neutrals according to the idea.
It seems that since then voters have understood the complexity, reality and possibility of such an idea due to the appearance of a purely royalist political organization that almost entered the Serbian Parliament.
However, the restoration of the parliamentary monarchy is not on the voters’ list of priorities , and without the direct and strong support of the Crown Prince Alexander II and his sons, the voters were not fully motivated nor offered a holistic political program to support such an idea.
However, it seems that now the support is clearer and better profiled than in 2013.
