Pets can also have a significant impact in reducing allergies and asthma, as well as providing support during social interaction with other people. (source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.center4research.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National center for health research<\/a> )  <\/p>\n<p>Although it is difficult to fully examine the impact of pets on human health, we cannot deny their positive influence on mood.<\/p>\n<p>In our large survey, we found out that 59.9% of Serbian citizens have one or more pets. Dogs (76.8%) and cats (40.8%) are at the top of the list of pets in households throughout Serbia. They are more represented in rural than in urban areas.  <\/p>\n<p>While an almost equal number of men (76.1%) and women (77.3%) have dogs as pets, the statistics are slightly different for cats. 42.4% of women have cats, and men slightly less (38.9%). <\/p>\n<p>Fish in the aquarium are more common in the west (8.9%) and south of Serbia (7.9%), while rodents (11.6%) and parrots (6.6%) are most common in the north.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Numerous research studies have found that people who own a pet are generally in better health, visit doctors less often, exercise more and are less depressed.
